When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.

Re: Quote of the day.
Wed, December 27, 2006 - 12:48 AMA great quote!
It's core is very similar to John Lennon's song "Imagine" (Imagine there are no countries, no religions ... to die for ...)
The problem I see is, that as simple as these ideas are (everything ingenious is after all simple), not many seem to want to know them. For very many their nationality or religion is something very important, something one can never let go. Not many are ready to realize the separation that is inherent in these "values". And as long we don't allow to question and finally let go even our very basic beliefs, there is not much hope for this world to get better. We need to understand that all the evil in the world is not "somewhere outside" but very deep within ourselves. Any hate, any war would be unthinkable without these "values" in us - WE are the world, or better:
"We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make our world. ." (Buddha)
and ...
"YOU are the change you want to see in the world" (M. Gandhi)
Krishnamurti's book "Inward Revolution, Bringing About Radical Change in the World" is great with respect to this topic.
Wish you all a warm light in your hearts in the new year 2007.
